VOICE (Views and Opinions Inspire Change for Everyone) Ambassador
All over the country there are Children in Care Councils helping to shape the services that children and young people in care and care leavers receive in local areas.
In Telford and Wrekin the Care Council is called Voice. VOICE is run by Council officers, it meets every fortnight and is open to all children and young people in care.
This is a consultation group helping children and young people advise the council about services and consult about effects the system has on children and young people in their care.
VOICE is there to help the Council to make sure that the voices of all children and young people in care and care leavers are listened to.
This role will be to support the VOICE co-ordinators during meetings, seasonal activities and regional trips.
Responsibilities would include assisting the co-ordinators to manage group dynamics, facilitate meetings and take notes when required.
Alert co-ordinators to any concerns raised by young people regarding their overall care.
Volunteers for this role will need to be caring, enthusiastic and have a flexible approach with young people who at times can be challenging.
Good listening and communication skills and a commitment to supporting children and young people.
No specific experience is necessary as training will be provided on all aspects of the role and additional shadowing sessions can be arranged.
Enthusiasm and a willingness to get stuck in alongside the young people is vital.
A willingness to travel to agreed locations.
