Suitable for -
Phone friend. Phone friends form a trusting one-to-one friendship with an adult carer (18+) over the telephone. You'll take time to share life's ups and downs, or talk about things that are happening locally or in the wider world - nothing formal or complicated - just day to day chat. They may have worries and you may be able to help support them in finding solutions. The friendship can include some face-to-face chats if both carer and volunteer feel happy with this. Knowing that a friend will be phoning up for a chat can make a huge difference to a family carer's outlook on life.
Over 21. Have a caring, non-judgemental attitude to carers and their families. Good communication skills and willing to build a supporting friendship over the 'phone. An interest in improving a carer's life enjoyment, confidence and self-esteem. Able and willing to use a mobile or landline phone to make regular calls to carers (flexible, but around once a week - 2 hours per month in total). Take part in initial Phone friends training.
Particularly suitable for those who cannot travel to volunteer for whatever reason. All expenses paid.
